Detroit Mayor welcomes Nation for Saviours' Day
By Andrea Muhammad

DETROIT (FinalCall.com) - In a statement of support for Saviours’ Day’ 07, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said, “I look at this [Saviours’ Day] as a homecoming.” The Nation of Islam was founded in the city of Detroit in 1934.

While underscoring the importance of the Nation returning to its physical roots, Mayor Kilpatrick noted that, more importantly, it was returning to its spiritual roots.

“We [the City of Detroit] are happy to do business both economically and spiritually with the Nation of Islam and look forward to the Nation of Islam coming home.”

Members of the National Executive Council traveled to the city November 2 and met with the mayor, as well as key officials to begin to iron out the logistics for the city to host the annual convention.
